Three years of devotion One moment of stolen freedom A consequence that will be hard to forgive floating is easy is the first short drama to be directed by Scottish BAFTA award-winning BBC documentary director, Graeme McAulay. Written by Katy McAulay, the project draws on the creative teams' personal experiences of the effects of Alzheimers on a family. With a cast of great new and established female acting talent in Scotland, Rebecca Sloyan, Alison Peebles and Shonagh Price, floating is easy aims to establish a new drama directing talent with a poignant, emotionally and visually resonant short film which raises awareness of the impact of Alzheimers on family life. floating is easy was shot on location in Glasgow and Edinburgh on HD (Panasonic HVX900) by award-winning DoP, Paul Riley. The film was completed in October 2008. When Emily’s quiet life is disrupted by a noisy musician moving in next door, the outcome is far from mutedAlcoba Films is currently distributing the award winning short film Mono, written and directed by Richard Smith and produced by Abigail Howkins for Digicult/GMAC Shorts 2006. The film has garnered 35 international festival screenings and won 2nd Prize at the BBC New Filmmakers Award 2006, Best Short Film at End of the Pier International Film Festival, Audience Award at the Merchant City Festival and Director’s Citation at Black Maria Festival. Hot on the heels of Mono, and shot in just a day, Score features Alton Milne in the role of Sebastian whose daily routine is upset one day by a small incident which forces him to think about his life choices. Produced for the ‘STUCK IN TRAFFIC’ themed competition on www.filmaka.com, Score won the Jury Prize of this competition and can currently be seen on the Filmmaka website. Painter, Pavel Romanov deserted the Russian Army in 2000 and by unknown ways and means ‘ended up’ in Glasgow, Scotland. Living in temporary hostel accommodation in the city centre, he tells us his experience of being an ‘Artist in Exile’ in Scotland. Produced with Autonomi as part of the Perspective DVD series commissioned by Gorbals Initiative, this short documentary was produced and directed by Abigail Howkins. It has screened at Document 3 International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival, Exodus Shorts Film Festival and the inaugural Scottish Mental Health Arts and Film Festival in Glasgow, Scotland. The Perspective series is used as a training resource for community development projects in five EU-States in partnership with Glasgow South East Regeneration Agency. |
